Urban Western Dreams | Carlisle, PA Senior Portrait Photographer

The second I heard where this beautiful senior wanted to have her session I couldn’t believe my luck. Fitness, urban AND western? Did I win the lottery? It was everything that I hoped it would be, despite a little rain to start the evening. The sunset at the end made it totally worth it. I never had such a difficult time narrowing down my favorites. Please be warned that this is an unashamed overshare on my part! Libby, you are truly an inspiration!

A Little Summer on a Snow Day | Boiling Springs, PA Photographer

It has come to my attention that I have a lot to do to update my blog. And today’s snow day is the perfect day! To make myself feel a little warmer, today’s spotlight takes us back to the hot months of summer. It was an honor to take pictures of this handsome soldier and family friend and his lovely girlfriend before she left for school and he made plans for deployment. It didn’t take long to see that they display a confidence and comfort with each other that is well beyond their years. I have no doubt that there will be many happy memories to come!

PS Today is also his birthday which he is celebrating at deployment training!

While You Were Gone Day 5 | Newville, PA Photographer

Today was a big day. We brought Anna home from her stay in the wilds of the north mountain at Camp YoliJwa where she spent the week growing in her faith, bouncing off of trees and talking to her peers with actual words instead of abbreviations on a screen. IDK. LOL. AS:DFAJSDF:LJ. I have no idea what I’m doing. One of Aidan’s favorite pasttimes at church camp is playing in the fountain with his net where one can catch cool stuff like tadpoles, newts and if you’re having a REALLY bad day, leptospirosis. Or in texting lingo, LPTOPUK.

When we arrived home, the first thing Anna did was hook up her IV drip to Facebook. When was the last time YOU were away for 6 whole days, cut off from seeing which one of your friends had the best duck face cell phone picture taken and who achieved level quadrillion in Candy Crush, huh? That’s what I thought. Don’t judge her. Beckham, our dear cat, was just beside himself waiting for her to arrive back home. She’s his absolute favorite because apparently her bed is better than any other place in the house. You could practically see him smile.

And no day is complete without a good guinea pig wrangling session. It’s really becoming an event with these two. Aidan has on his gladiator outfit  because one can’t be too careful. Please pay special attention to the lanyards that Claire made. Only official staff personnel was permitted inside the guinea pig arena. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.

Lastly, I started packing the van for a quick trip to the beach next week. You know-wagon, beach chairs, miniature antique Victorian settee, the usual.

In case you were wondering, I’m looking forward to taking newborn pictures of my brand new cousin in Garnet Valley which just happens to be almost on our way home. That’s what the tiny furniture is for – just in case we decide to use it! (Although it would make a nice chaise for one of my legs.)

While you were gone Day 4 | Cumberland County, PA Photographer

One of our stops for the day included Bedford Street Antiques to look for a special secret gift for my brand new cousin. I have a confession. Sometimes, when I go to an antique mall and am in the middle of a display of priceless breakables on shelves, I have this almost irresistible urge to just spread my arms out and start spinning around. I know, I’m not proud of it. But one thing I’ve almost mastered in my 39 years is self control so thankfully I’ve never had to be forcibly removed from any location. For this reason, I hesitate to bring children to places like this because what if they get the same urge and can’t stop themselves? Then what? Aidan, however did a fine job. His only impulse was to want to spend $29 on a bag of Star Wars promotion coins from some ancient event in California. Thankfully, he didn’t have any money.

When I was in middle school, I had a gumball machine in my locker where my friends could get a piece of gum for a nickel. Sometimes all they had was a quarter, and that was okay, too. But I didn’t make change, so I made out on those transactions. Imagine what I could have done with a machine of this size? Probably funded college.

I also had a Raggedy Ann doll that my mom made me, but it wasn’t nearly as intense as this one. There’s no way this would have sat in my room and watched over me at night, although it appears she’s had enough caffeine to be up to the task.

Our afternoon consisted of a guinea pig styling session. In the suburbs, girls practice doing hair on those little doll heads. Here in rural America, we use whatever we can get our hands on.

Aidan and Claire were very busy outside, defending our borders against dragons from their perch in the tree house.

Meanwhile, inside, my sister and I were fighting a far more sinister enemy: Pinterest recipes.

Our goal:

Nailed it. Whatever. Stupid bananas. Stupid chocolate. Stupid Pinterest.

Project 2

Our goal:

Meh. Better than the bananas.
